Hyonmu Gate in Moran Hill

Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- Hyonmu Gate is located at the foot of Moran Hill in the capital city of Pyongyang.

Hyonmu means the mythological turtle symbolizing the God of the North, one of the four guardian gods.

It was erected in the mid-6th century when Koguryo Kingdom (277 B.C.- 668 A.D.) was building the walled city of Pyongyang, and was rebuilt in 1714.

The colorfully painted gate consists of embankment and tower.

The gate, which had been destroyed by the U.S. bombing in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953), was restored to the original state in Juche 43 (1954).

It adds beauty to the scenery of Moran Hill.
