Police Suppression of People Assailed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- The Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations and the Bus of Hope toward World Free of Lay-off and Part-time Jobs Wednesday held a press conference in the metal trade union office to chide the puppet police for committing violence against people.

A press release said the police blocked people heading to Yongdo Shipyard to take part in actions for the settlement of Hanjin Heavy Industry Co. case and the issue of part-time job in October and mercilessly cracked down on them.

The police used water canon and suppression gears on protesters and whisked off many of them.

The police crackdown has been intensified this year.

It used water cannon and tear gas on protesters who rejected the "Free Trade Agreement" and called for the settlement of the registration fee. It even walked away passers-by who protested its violence, charging that they interfered in the execution of duties.

Disclosing this, the press release said the police human rights abuses have been committed with the help of power.

The chief of police agency called for tougher clampdown, saying the use of water canon and tear gas is nothing surprising, the release said.

It urged the police to apologize for its wrong deeds and immediately stop human rights abuses.
