Meeting for Friendship between Korean, Japanese Women Held in Japan

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- A meeting for friendship and exchange between Korean and Japanese women took place in Tokyo on Nov. 2, according to Choson Sinbo, the organ of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.

Present there were members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and the Japanese Women's Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women and women activists from across Japan.

Speeches were made at the meeting.

Kim Yong Ae, advisor of the Union, noted that the Union has waged the movement for national rights in solidarity with Japanese women while concentrating its efforts on the work for national education.

But, there has been no change in the Japanese authorities' discrimination policy toward Korean residents, she said.

Korea's reunification is directly connected with peace of Asia, she said, calling for further strengthening the ties and solidarity between Korean and Japanese women to this end.

Sumiko Shimizu, representative of the Society, said that Japan's past has not yet been settled because the government has persistently pursued hostile policy towards the DPRK and policy of violating human rights of Korean residents.

The solidarity movement of Japanese and Korean women should advance for creating a new history of Japan-DPRK relations, she stressed.

The meeting discussed on the tasks of the movement for urging the Japanese authorities to enforce the tuition-waiver program for Korean schools and normalize the DPRK-Japan relations.
