Abnormal Weather Observed in Korea

Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Abnormal climatic conditions have been observed in Korea in autumn.

Sim Myong Ok, a vice-director of the Central Meteorological Research Institute, told KCNA that the subtropical frontal zone has moved up to 35 degrees north latitude from the beginning of November to raise temperature and cause a large amount of precipitation.

Such phenomenon is the first of its kind in the country since Juche 54 (1965), she said, adding:

A warm temperature, higher than the average, has persisted in all parts of Korea these days.

It is because the middle latitudes have been severely affected by high pressure. So, warm and damp air formed by the subtropical frontal zone has moved towards Korea from late October.

With low pressure formed in the subtropical front passing above the area south of the central part of Korea, many areas of Korea, including Pyongyang, North and South Phyongan, North and South Hwanghae and South Hamgyong provinces, are likely to have a large amount of precipitation on Friday and Saturday.

According to data available until Friday morning, it rained more than 50mm in Nampho City, Kangwon Province and some other areas.
