DPRK to Boost Relations with UNESCO Member Nations

Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will further develop the friendly and cooperative relations with all UNESCO member nations and make positive contribution to the international efforts for global peace and security and common development and prosperity of mankind.

The head of the DPRK delegation stressed this, speaking at the plenary meeting of the 36th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Oct. 28.

The DPRK has invariably respected the charter and ideal of the UNESCO and taken active part in the organization activities since its admission to it, the head said.

Recalling that the DPRK and the UNESCO have further strengthened their cooperation over the past two years, thus expanding cooperation fields including education, science and culture and successfully carrying out the cooperation projects, he said:

The DPRK government has concentrated all efforts on the economic construction, with the main stress put on radically improving the people's living standard, thus registering signal successes.

The economic construction in the DPRK needs stable and peaceful environment, and it is based on the development of up-to-date science and technology in the present era of the knowledge-based economy.

This construction is accompanied by the development of quality education suited to the requirement of the new century, the education whereby everybody learns, and the building of sound and civilized socialist culture.

Independence, peace and friendship are the consistent idea of the DPRK's foreign policy.
