Day of 7 Billion People Observed in DPRK

Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Diverse events were held at Yanggakdo International Hotel in Pyongyang on Monday, the Day of 7 Billion People.

Present at the events were DPRK officials concerned, staff members of the UN organizations and foreign embassies in the DPRK, including Jerome Sauvage, UN resident coordinator and UNFPA representative.

Congratulatory speeches were made there.

Speakers said 7 Billion Actions Campaign would have provided a good opportunity to better understand the importance of population issues in DPRK and promote the implementation of ICPD Plan of Action. They expressed the belief that cooperation between the DPRK and the United Nations Population Fund will develop in a more favorable way in the future.

Then a photo and children's painting exhibition and a prize-giving ceremony took place on the theme "The world at 7 Billion.

Paintings reflect not only the desire of children for a peaceful, environment-clean and prosperous world but also their willingness to contribute to the well-being of humankind.

The participants appreciated a video "United World", a song sang by artistes of different nations, before listening to speeches titled "Presentation of 2011 world population report" and "On DPRK population."
