Chinese Media on Development of China-DPRK Relations

Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The Chinese newspaper People's Daily on October 24 carried an article titled "Let Us Carry forward Friendship and Boost Cooperation" by Liu Jieyi, deputy head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The Sino-DPRK relationship has steadily developed, weathering trials of changes in the international situation over the past 62 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the writer of the article said, and went on:

Thanks to the efforts made by both sides in recent years successes have been made in multifaceted exchange and cooperation and the Sino-DPRK friendly and cooperative relations have reached a new phase of development.

There frequently took place mutual visits of high-level officials between the two countries in the field of politics.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited China four times since May last year to exchange views on the matters of bilateral relations and the issues of mutual concern with party and state leaders of China and reached important common understanding, thus indicating the orientation of developing the China-DPRK relations and breathing new life into them.

The two countries have conducted such brisk activities as cooperation, exchange and visit in various fields including economy and culture, increasing their successes as the days go by. They have also played positive roles for defending the regional peace and stability by getting in close touch with each other over regional and international issues.

The achievements in developing the China-DPRK relations would have been unthinkable without the special care and particular concern shown by the leaders of the two parties and two countries, the writer noted, adding:

Today the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations have entered a new phase of development.

We, together with the DPRK side, have willingness to exert efforts to develop the Sino-DPRK friendship by remaining committed to the important common understanding reached by the leaders of the two parties and two countries and continuing to boost the visits of high-ranking officials.

We also respect and support the active measures taken by the DPRK side to defend stability, develop economy and improve the standard of people's living.

We are convinced that the Korean people would surely register bigger successes in their cause of building a prosperous and powerful country under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
