Pyongyang, October 27 (KCNA) -- A by-election to local self-governing bodies took place in south Korea on Wednesday.

The focus of it was on the election of mayor in Seoul which is inhabited with the majority of the population.

On the votes counted, Pak Won Sun, an independent candidate, won in the election, defeating Ra Kyong Won, candidate from the "Grand National Party".

The results of the recent election meant a stern punishment of the conservative forces by the public.
