World's First Rain Gauge

Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation was the first in the world to invent a rain gauge.

The cylinder-shaped udometer had a delicate scale inside.

Before it was made, rainfall had been gauged in the way of measuring the depth of rainwater-permeated soil.

The method was not correct in gauging the amount of precipitation with areas different from each other in quality and condition of soil.

The Korean nation invented an iron-made rain gauge in August 1441 and a copper-made one in May 1442.

The invention was nearly 200 years earlier than that made in Italy in 1639.
