Mt. Ryongak

Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Mt. Ryongak in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang has been called "Mt. Kumgang in Pyongyang" from olden times for its picturesque scenery and myriad-shaped rocks.

The mountain has some 20 fantastic peaks and armful-thick trees hundreds of years old.

The highest peak of the mountain is Tae Peak 292 meters above the sea.

The mountain also boasts of historic and cultural relics, including Pobun Cloister built in the period of Koguryo Kingdom (277 B.C.-668 A.D.) and Ryonggok School built in Ri Dynasty (1392-1910).

Sightseeing paths extending tens of kilometers have been paved and many resting places including pavilions built in the mountain under deep care of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The mountain scenery is more beautiful in autumn.
