Natural Damage in Vietnam and Central American Countries

Pyongyang, October 21 (KCNA) -- Flood damage by the recent heavy rains is increasing in Vietnam and Central American countries.

Devastating floods in Vietnam's central and southern provinces killed at least 55 people since August, reported the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Tuesday.

Flash floods caused by torrential rain in Vietnam's central region over the last weekend had killed seven people, injured 14 others while another four still missing.

Floods also inundated more than 172,700 houses and destroyed 15,800 hectares of farmlands.

Meanwhile, a total of 150,000 flood sufferers and at least 80 deaths were reported in Central American countries as of October 17.

In El Salvador 32 people were killed, 20,000 flood sufferers appeared and more than 2,000 houses and roads and bridges were destroyed.

In Guatemala 28 people were killed and 110,000 suffered damage.

Nicaragua, Costa Rica and other countries, too, suffered heavy human and material losses from floods.
