Plenary Meeting of Communist Party of China Held

Beijing, October 18 (KCNA) -- The 6th Plenary Meeting of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China took place in Beijing from Oct. 15 through 18.

The plenary meeting heard and discussed a report made by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, upon the authorization of its Political Bureau. The meeting also examined and adopted "Decision of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on several crucial problems on stepping up the reform of cultural system and spurring great development and prosperity of socialist culture".

The meeting affirmatively estimated the work done by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after the fifth plenary meeting of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

It was clarified at the meeting that it is of important significance in opening up a new phase of building socialism with the Chinese characteristics and achieving the great prosperity of the Chinese nation to effect a high-pitched drive for building socialist culture.

It called for carrying out in depth the scientific outlook on development and maintaining the orientation of progress of the advanced socialist culture to put spurs to the great development and prosperity of socialist culture.

The meeting set forth 2020 action program for the cultural reform and development.

It called on the party and the country to make concerted efforts to attain this goal and lay a solid groundwork for turning China into a socialist cultural power.

The meeting also examined and adopted "Decision on convening the 18th party conference" and decided to convene it in Beijing in the latter half of 2012.

The meeting appealed to the party to achieve firm unity around the Central Committee with Hu Jintao as general secretary, create culture through the great practices of maintaining and developing socialism with the Chinese characteristics and make efforts to convert China into a socialist cultural power.
