Early Normalization of DPRK-Japan Relations Called for in Japan

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Japanese organizations sent a written request to the Japanese prime minister and foreign minister on Sept. 29 demanding an earlier normalization of the DPRK-Japan relations. They included the Japanese Women's Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women, the Japan-Korea Cultural Interchange Association and the Kanagawa Prefectural Citizens Society for Promoting the Normalization of Japan-DPRK Relations.

The request said that the liquidation of the inglorious past between Japan and the DPRK is an essential process for bright prospect and a course leading to denuclearization and peace in Northeast Asia.

It called for immediately resuming the talks for the normalization of the relations between the two countries to realize it till autumn in 2012 which marks the 10th anniversary of the Pyongyang Declaration.

To this end, it is necessary to lift the sanctions against the DPRK and create an atmosphere of resuming the dialogue, it stressed.

Conveying the request Sumiko Shimizu, representative of the Women's Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women, on the same day asserted that solution to the issue between the two countries should start with Japan's settlement of its past.
