Joint Buddhist Mass Calls for Improving North-South Relations

Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- A joint mass of Buddhists of the north and the south praying for national reunification on the 4th anniversary of the reconstruction of Singye Temple in Mt. Kumgang of the DPRK was held in the temple Thursday.

Attending it were officer-bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea, monks and believers of the temple from the north side and monks and believers of the south Korean Buddhist Jogye Order from the south side.

A Buddhist ritual was followed by speeches and a joint prayer of Buddhists for national reunification was read out.

Speakers said the joint mass in the wake of the recent Pyongyang visit by the delegation of the south Korean Buddhist Jogye Order is a manifestation of the unanimous will of the Buddhists in the north and the south to achieve unity in Dharma-minded concord, defend and implement the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration in a do-or-die spirit and boost solidarity and cooperation for peace on the Korean Peninsula and the country's reunification.

The prayer clarified the firm pledge of the Buddhists to turn out in practical actions to improve the north-south relations and achieve reunification, peace and prosperity of the country so that south side personnel can freely visit the Singye Temple.
