World Day of Post Observed

Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government will as ever strengthen the cooperation with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to make great contributions to common prosperity and development in the postal field.

Minju Joson Sunday says this in a bylined article dedicated to World Day of Post.

The UPU set October 9, birthday of the general postal union, as World Day of Post with the purpose of realizing international standardization in the post and communications and strengthening cooperation among countries.

The UPU's basic mission is to take effective steps for mutual exchange of mail and strengthen international cooperation for development of postal service.

The DPRK became a member nation of the UPU on May 29, 1974, the article says, and goes on:

Since then, it has sincerely fulfilled its international duty in postal field and deepened cooperative relations with the UPU.

The DPRK government set it as a major task to put the postal service on a modern basis for better convenience of citizens and is now striving to carry it out.
