Reinstatement of Comfort Women Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, October 8 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Meeting, an organization of former unconverted long-term prisoners of south Korea, held the 990th Wednesday rally for settling the issue of comfort women for the imperial Japanese army in Seoul on October 5.

Present at the rally were comfort women victims, former unconverted long-term prisoners, representatives of civic and public organizations and members of Japanese organizations.

Speakers said that a lot of Koreans were taken to the battlefield of war of aggression during the colonial rule by the Japanese imperialists and met deaths. The victims are still suffering from pains.

Japan has made neither apology nor reparation for the crimes of sexual slavery by the Japanese imperialists, an issue pending immediate solution, they said.

They said they would stage solidarity activities with different countries with the 1 000th Wednesday rally due in December as an occasion.

A statement adopted at the rally urged the "government" to make efforts for the reinstatement of the comfort women victims and the proper settlement of history.
