Peace Regime Should Be Established in Korea: Symposium

Pyongyang, October 7 (KCNA) -- An international symposium took place in Inchon, south Korea, on Oct. 4, the anniversary of the north-south declaration. It was co-sponsored by the "Korean Peninsula Peace Forum" and the south "Korean Future Development Institute."

Its theme was the "Korean peninsula peace regime and peace island on the west sea."

The symposium was attended by an estimated 300 people of south Korea and foreign countries, including professors.

Speakers at the symposium held that frequent conflicts in the peninsula are attributed to the United States.

The U.S. has tried to keep in the peninsula the cold war structure based on the alliance with south Korea and Japan, while seeking an order controlled by itself in Northeast Asia, they said.

They were of the view that the north's nuclear issue has also resulted from the U.S. attempt to keep the cold war in the peninsula.

For a solution to the nuclear issue, the U.S. should be held responsible for all developments, they urged.

Noting that peace is the only choice for settling all the issues, they stressed that a peace regime should be established in the Korean peninsula without fail.
