Peaceful Reunification Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, October 6 (KCNA) -- A festival for peaceful reunification marking the fourth anniversary of the October 4 declaration took place in south Korea on Oct. 4.

Present there were members of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and the steering committee of the festival for peaceful reunification, personages of opposition parties and Inchon citizens.

An appeal by All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration on the fourth anniversary of the October 4 declaration was read out there.

Then speeches were made.

Speakers denounced the authorities for finally making abortive the national joint event to mark the fourth anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

People from all walks of life in south Korea who had been filled with hope for reunification after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration are suffering from a nightmare since the emergence of the present "government," they said, and went on:

No one can deny the significance of the south-north joint declarations in the national history.

The south and north of Korea should pool their efforts to put an end to the misfortune of the homogeneous nation being forced to live in separation in one and the same land.

They called for achieving peaceful reunification by thoroughly implementing the joint declarations.

Messages of solidarity from the North Side Committee and Overseas Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration were introduced at the festival.
