Mausoleum of King Wang Kon

Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- There is the mausoleum of King Wang Kon on Mansu Hill in Haeson-ri, Kaesong City.

Wang Kon (877-943) was the founder of Koryo, the first united state of Korea. The mausoleum was built in 943. His wife's remains were buried together.

The mausoleum was reconstructed in Juche 83 (1994) under the deep concern of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

It covers 55,000 square meters, with 25,000 square meters of the main plottage and 30,000 square meters of a park and other surrounding area included.

Standing on one side of the mausoleum gate is a monument to the reconstructed mausoleum inscribed with the President's autograph.

The mausoleum is a typical Koguryo-style earthen tomb with an underground stone chamber. The height of the mound is 8 meters.

There are a stone-made bier in the middle of the chamber, long shelves for relics at the bottoms of the right and left walls. Three walls of the chamber are decorated with paintings of bamboo and pine trees.
