Settlement of Registration Fee Issue Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- South Korean students held a candlelight rally in Chonggye Plaza in Seoul on Sept. 30 for the settlement of the registration fee issue.

Attending the rally that was stretched into the second day were students under the Federation of University Students in the 21st Century and those of teachers' universities across south Korea who were staying away from classes.

At the rally speakers accused the authorities of turning away from the people's demand for the solution to the registration fee issue and resorting to university restructuring including the reorganization of teachers' universities.

The police did not hesitate to use water cannon and take away those students who turned out for the settlement of the issue, they said.

They called on the students to pool efforts to have the issue settled.

They demanded the authorities set free those students in custody, honor the commitment to halve the registration fee and stop restructuring of universities.
