12th Congress of "United Russia" Party Held

Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The 12th Congress of the "United Russia" Party was held in Moscow from Sept. 23 to 24.

Present at the congress were President Dmitri Medvedev, President of the Party Vladimir Putin, President of the Supreme Council of the Party Boris Gryzlov and other members of the Party's leadership and more than 1,300 delegates.

Also attending it were representatives of parties of over 40 countries including China, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Dmitri Medvedev and Vladimir Putin in their speeches referred to the issues of ensuring social stability, modernizing economy and maintaining its sustainable growth, bolstering the national defence capability, ensuring the security of the country and enforcing independent and sound foreign policy and other matters.

Boris Gryzlov made a report on the review of the work of the Party over the past decade and on its programme.

The collapse of Russia had presented itself as a real danger even a decade ago, but it was defused, Gryzlov said in his report, adding this was, above all, thanks to the emergence of the united political force meeting the interests of the state and majority of the Russian people.

Pointing to the successes made in the country over the last decade, he stressed that thanks to the political support of the Party the government made responsible decisions and took prompt actions, always bringing about good results.

These successes have provided a solid groundwork for carrying out the Party's programme, he said.

The Party needs the support of the united people, he added, calling for implementing the Party's programme by concerted efforts to make Russia stronger.

A political document was adopted and important issues related to the elections of the State Duma and the president were discussed at the congress.
