Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Il Sung University in Pyongyang is greeting its 65th anniversary.

Just after the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, President Kim Il Sung planned to construct different colleges for training native cadres needed for the building of a new country and found a university as a model.

The university was opened on October 1, Juche 35 (1946) under deep care of the President and Kim Jong Suk, an anti-Japanese war hero, and thanks to local people's patriotic zeal.

In his lifetime, the President visited the university more than a hundred times to indicate ways for developing it and pay deep attention to the working and living conditions of its teachers and students.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il climbed Ryongnam Hill on the university campus on September 1, 1960 and pledged to glorify Korea. During his university days he conducted energetic ideological and theoretical activities to publish more than 1,400 famous works and expound principles to be maintained in developing the university and accelerating socialist construction in the country.

Being busy with the overall affairs of the Workers' Party, the army and the state, he guided the university to creditably discharge its mission of training able personnel faithful to the cause of the party and the leader.

He had a fashionable e-library and swimming complex built in the university and guided it to consolidate its material and technical foundations and make a fresh progress in its educational work.
