Struggle for Settlement of Registration Fee Issue Supported in S. Korea

Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Successive chairpersons of the south Korean Council of Student Representatives and the Federation of University Student Councils made public a declaration on Sept. 28 in support of the struggle for settling the issue of registration fee.

The declaration said that the present chief executive unilaterally set about restructuring universities after refusing to honor the commitment to halve the registration fee and thus brought greater sufferings to the students and their parents.

Many students and their parents are committing suicide in despair after failing to afford money to pay the registration fee, it noted, adding:

The above-said issue remains unsolved in south Korea as the authorities and the "Grand National Party" are pursuing a policy for the privileged circle who accounts for just 1 percent of the population.

Students have struggled to get the registration fee halved in solidarity with people, it stressed, warning the "government" would face stronger resistance if it turns down their demand.
