Pyongyang Full of Life: Travelogue

Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- Om Ju Hyon, an official of the south Korean non-governmental organization, called "Dialogue and Mutual Understanding", contributed his Pyongyang travelogue to the Internet newspaper Thongil News on Monday.

The travelogue says:

Visiting Pyongyang again after 16 months, I unexpectedly saw the city full of life.

There were many buses and cars for tourists outside the Pyongyang Airport terminal and many tourists and their guides were also seen there.

Inside a Koryo Air plane that took off at China's Shenyang Airport, I read a magazine with pictures of apartment buildings now under construction in the Mansudae area, as well as their opened-up views.

Touring Pyongyang by car I could see high-rise apartment buildings being constructed in the area. The Ryugyong Hotel was undergoing an interior project after the completion of the exterior project.

Passersby looked active. 7-10 cars were waiting for green light at a crossroad with a signal lamp. Streets were neon-lighted at night, an indication that the electricity situation was better than before.

Crowded with people who look like spectators was the entrance of the Kaeson Station of Pyongyang Metro near Kim Il Sung Stadium, the venue of preliminaries for the 2012 Asian U-16 Football Championship.

I was wondering what those believing the north Korean government will collapse without south Korea's assistance will think about the appearance of Pyongyang.

It was amazing to see maize and rice fields along the road from Pyongyang to Sariwon. Though there were many mountains in the area, I could see vast fields, which offer a glimpse of the north's rural communities.

One member of our visiting group, who toured Sariwon after three years, said the city has taken radical changes, adding the north is undergoing changes and is on the way to development.
