Taedongyo Map Drawn by Kim Jong Ho

Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- "Taedongyo Map" is a Korean map drawn by Kim Jong Ho, a geographer and cartographer (early 19th century-1864).

He, born in Hwanghae Province, led a poor life but toured every nook and corner of the country for many years, with an eye to making a correct map of Korea.

It was said that he climbed Mt. Paektu five times.

After 27 years of painstaking effort, he completed the map in 1861. He drew the map on a scale of 1 to 162 000.

Mountains, mountain ranges, rivers, islands, islets, inhabited places, traffic networks and historic relics are marked in details in the map.

The map was considered as one of the world's famous maps at that time in view of scale, contents, drawing method and system.
