Women's Magazine Founded under Guidance of Kim Jong Suk

Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- On the death anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk, September 22, the Korean people are recollecting the feats she performed in founding a publication for enlightening the Korean women.

After the liberation of the country from the Japanese colonial rule, preparations were made under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung to found some publications, including party and government organs.

However, the C.C., the Democratic Women's Union of Korea (DWUK) lacked officials with knowledge and experience needed for founding its publication.

One day in February Juche 35 (1946) Kim Jong Suk visited the building of the DWUK Central Committee to discuss the founding of women's magazine.

Its officials told her that they intended to publish the 20-30 page first issue of a magazine with their own efforts before the International Women's Day, March 8.

But Kim Jong Suk said they should start publishing the magazine after making full preparations.

One June day that year she met the officials again and said the women's magazine should serve as an ideological weapon to arm them and their organizations with the President's ideas and encourage them to turn out in the building of a new society.

When the issue of naming the magazine was under discussion, she said the name of the magazine should reflect the Korean women's pride in living in the liberated country.

A few days later, she brought the officials to the office of the President to seek advice from him.

The President told them it was important to give a good title to the organ of DWUK. He then suggested naming it "Korean Women".

The first issue of the magazine was published in September 1946 under the guidance of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Suk.
