Stone Buddhist Image in Mt. Kumgang

Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- A cliff in Inner Kumgang of Mt. Kumgang was inscribed with a Buddhist image.

It, dating back to the Koryo period (918-1392), is one of the largest and best stone Buddhist sculptures in Korea.

The sculpture is 15 meters high, 9.4 meters wide, with the face of the image 3.1 meters high and 2.6 meters wide.

In the sculpture, Buddha sits with his legs crossed, right hand raised and left hand put on his thigh.

Beaming face, long eyebrows, big ears and wrinkled clothes on shoulders -- all these represent the characteristics of Buddha sculptures belonging to the period of Koryo kingdom.

The sculpture is indicative of Koryo people's excellent masonry and artistic talents.
