S. Korean Authorities' Promise of Opening of Rice Market to U.S. under Fire

Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Federation of Peasants Association of south Korea on Sept. 15 made public a statement denouncing the authorities for promising the opening of rice market to the U.S. at the negotiations for concluding FTA with the U.S.

The statement referred to WeakiLeaks' disclosure of the fact that the chief of the Headquarters for Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade guaranteed the opening of rice market of south Korea to the U.S. and its expansion at the end of the negotiations for concluding FTA.

This gave the lie to the assertion of the ministry that there was no promise with the U.S. as regards the rice market opening, the statement added.

It urged the authorities to fully investigate into the case and dismiss the chieftain who promised the opening of the rice market at once.

It also accused the Committee for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Unification of "the National Assembly" of south Korea of its intention to pass the bill on concluding FTA, as requested by the U.S.

The statement declared the organization would launch actions to check this.
