Beijing, September 13 (KCNA) -- Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council of China, recently issued important instructions on preventing drought.

The instructions said:

It is necessary to closely follow the impact of the severe drought in some of the southwest areas on the production and activities of inhabitants, intensify the drive against drought and for the relevant sectors to strengthen the guidance and support to the drive.

It is imperative to pay primary attention to guaranteeing the security of drinking water, plan the use of water resources in a coordinated way and put the irrigation projects on a scientific basis and thus minimize the losses caused by drought.
