S. Korean Authorities Urged to Drop Confrontation Policy

Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- Papers Saturday carry bylined commentaries on the recent deposal of south Korean Minister of Unification Hyon In Thaek.

It is fortunate and natural for Hyon to be dismissed, though belatedly, from the ministerial post as he did only things harmful to the inter-Korean relations and reunification, Rodong Sinmun says.

During his office traitor Hyon brought the inter-Korean relations to collapse. Citing his crimes, the paper continues:

His dismissal means total bankruptcy of confrontation policy.

No one can vouch that the replacement of Unification minister will lead to the switchover in south Korea's "policy toward the north." In the recent reshuffle the chief executive appointed Hyon as a special adviser to the "president" for unification policy. This is a mockery of the domestic and foreign public demanding a changeover in the policy of confrontation with the DPRK.

It is unanimous will of the nation and requirements of the reality for the south Korean authorities to make a prompt switchover in their policy of confrontation with the fellow countrymen, swimming with the tide of the times. However, the south Korean chief executive appointed Hyon, mastermind and executor of confrontation policy, as the special adviser. This can not be construed otherwise than an indication of his intention to maintain the present "policy toward the north", which is denounced at home and abroad.

Those who escalate confrontation with fellow countrymen would only be forsaken and rejected by the nation.

The replacement of the south Korean minister of Unification will never help improve the inter-Korean relations, Minju Joson says, stressing that cancellation of confrontation policy is more important than the replacement.
