S. Korean Authorities Accused of Their Human Rights Abuses

Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- The Government Employees' Union, the Solidarity for an End to the Discrimination against Handicapped and the Joint Action for Setting Right the "Human Rights Committee" of south Korea held a meeting outside the building of the Human Rights Committee on August 31 denouncing the authorities for their human rights abuses.

Speakers at the meeting accused Hyon Pyong Chol, chairman of the "Human Rights Committee", of contemplating taking disciplinary measures against many employees opposed to his arbitrary practices.

Such measures taken and to be taken by him under the pretext of "quality of public employees" and the like are a serious infringement upon human rights, they charged.

They called for the immediate resignation of Hyon suppressing the freedom of expression.

Prior to the meeting, the organizations held a press conference at which they demanded the chairman step down.

Meanwhile, staff members of the Human Rights Committee who were unreasonably made victims of the disciplinary measures issued a joint statement on the same day, clarifying their stand to cope with such action by filing administrative lawsuit, stating they no longer expect any fair measure.
