Decorative Patterns of Korea

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- From ancient times the Korean people have applied different decorative patterns to handiworks, cloth, daily necessities and buildings.

Decorative patterns in Koguryo Kingdom (277 B.C.-668 A.D.) were characterized by powerful, elastic and formative styles.

Those in Koryo (early 10th century-late 14th century) were represented by such plants as wild amomile, peony, willow and prunus mume, as well as water bird, fish and insects.

Letter patterns were popular in the period of Ri Dynasty.

The present-day patterns are embellished with flowers like magnolia, azalea, lily of the valley and white apricot blossom.
