S. Korean Authorities Hit for Human Rights Abuses

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Joint Action for Meeting with Prisoners of Conscience held a press conference outside Seoul Prison on August 29 denouncing the puppet authorities for their abuses of rights of prisoners of conscience.

At the press conference the organization recalled that many people who turned out in the struggle for independence, democracy, reunification and vital rights are detained in the prison on charges of the violation of the "National Security Law".

The authorities are undisguisedly abusing human rights such as keeping a pro-reunification activist charged with the involvement in the conspiratorial "spy ring case" in custody at a place where cameras are monitoring every movement of the activist, it charged.

Even meeting with the prisoners of conscience is disallowed, it said, urging the authorities to stop the suppression of democracy and human rights under the pretext of security and set free the prisoners of conscience at an early date.
