Withdrawal of NSL and Release of Prisoners of Conscience Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- The Joint Action for Meeting Prisoners of Conscience made up of members of at least 50 labor, human rights and public organizations in south Korea have been going around all parts of south Korea from August 29 as part of their struggle for the release of the prisoners of conscience.

The organization disclosed that at present there are over 900 prisoners of conscience including pro-democracy and pro-reunification figures who were thrown behind bars on the strength of the "National Security Law" (NSL).

Referring to the daily worsening human rights abuses in prisons, the organization firmly demanded the authorities withdraw the fascist law, stop suppression under the pretext of public security and set free prisoners of conscience.
