S. Koreans Wage Actions against Lay-Off

Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Laid-off workers of the Ssangryong Motor Co. Ltd. and the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and other people from all walks of life waged actions against the "government" in Seoul on Saturday and Sunday demanding it retract the lay-off measure and withdraw part-time job system.

A candlelight rally was held at Chonggye Square in Seoul on Saturday.

The speakers blamed the enterprise side for enforcing the wholesale dismissal in pursuit of profits, thus pushing the workers to death.

But the present regime is siding by the conglomerates and enforcing the policy against the workers, they said.

They declared their will to pool the efforts of people of all strata and wage a dynamic struggle until the lay-off measure is retracted and the traitorous "government" is punished.

They held another rally at Tokripmun Park on Sunday.

They accused the security authorities of deploying 110 companies of police forces around Chongwadae building, creating terror-ridden atmosphere.

They would keep their actions for their vital rights, they said.

After the rally they staged a demonstration march.
