S. Korean Organizations Declare Actions against Fascist Crackdown

Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- A joint statement "We declare all-out emergency actions to cope with the situation created under the pretext of security" issued by the Kangjong Village Association of south Korea, the Special Island Committee for Peace of the Jeju Parish of the Roman Catholic Church, the All-Islanders Measure Committee for Checking the Jeju Military Base and south Korean Measure Council for Checking the Construction of Jeju Naval Base on August 25.

The statement accused the security authorities of walking off participants in the action against the naval base construction including the chief of the Kangjong Village, Jeju Island on August 24 and contemplating detaining them under an absurd pretext.

It blasted the authorities for setting in motion conservative press and organizations to brand those forces opposed to the base construction as "a leftist faction" and trying to hurl even police forces into cracking down upon the protesters.

Reminding the authorities that brutal suppression is bound to entail fierce protest actions and reinforce the unity of various circles, the statement declared fascist crackdown would be countered with actions.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the south Korean Democratic Labor Party issued a commentary on August 26.

It accused the security authorities of hurling even police of the inland into Jeju Island for putting down the struggle of people against the above-said military base construction, reviving the nightmare of the April 3 incident.
