Japan-resident Koreans Aid Quake Victims

Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the Ibaragi Prefectural Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on Aug. 12.

Aid fund sent by the Chongryon Central Emergency Measure Committee was conveyed to the headquarters to help recover from damage caused by the March 11 killing earthquake and tsunami.

The meeting was attended by Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Ri Yong Hun, chairman of the prefectural headquarters, and other officials and Koreans in Japan.

Addressing the meeting, Nam said that Chongryon officials and Korean compatriots in Miyagi, Iwade, Fukushima and Ibaragi prefectures have made devoted efforts to recover from the damage as quickly as possible and revitalize the whole work of the headquarters, including the stabilization of the afflicted compatriots and resumption of national education.

The officials and patriotic-minded businesspersons are striving hard to rehabilitate the destroyed hall of the Ibaragi prefectural headquarters and let Chongryon organizations in the prefecture put their work on track at an early date, he said.

The aid fund for rehabilitating the hall amounts to 3,000,000 yen.

Speakers said the officials of the prefectural headquarters and Korean compatriots have made dynamic activities to recover from the damage, encouraged by the relief fund sent by General Secretary Kim Jong Il. They also voiced their determination to hasten the hall rehabilitation with the help of the aid fund and turn out in the drive for making a fresh turn in the development of Chongryon.
