Beijing, August 25 (KCNA) -- The Chinese party and government are attaching importance to the agricultural production in building socialism with the Chinese characteristics and paying big efforts to it.

Under the steps taken by the state, experts have been dispatched to rural areas to decrease natural damage to the maximum and scientifically guide the manure and cultivation of crops.

A brisk drive is going on to build reservoirs and farmland irrigation facilities.

In recent years reservoir repair work has been done to prevent 161 million mu of farmlands from being inundated.

Land alignment is progressing apace. 718 000 mu of terraced fields have been built across the country in a little more than one year.

China planned to build 40 million mu of sloping fields into standardized terraced fields during the 12th Five-Year Plan and got to this work.

It is intensifying the work to disseminate agricultural science and technology and introduce advanced farming technology.

All units of the country are now researching and breeding new good strains to enhance the yield per unit of crops including rice, wheat and maize and, at the same time, actively disseminating advanced science and technology.
