Rodong Sinmun Calls for Development of NAM

Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- The present reality urgently calls for adhering to the noble idea and purity of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), further developing it and enhancing its might and role, Rodong Sinmun today said in a bylined article.

Only when the NAM gives full play to its might of unity is it possible to meet all sorts of challenges and tide over ordeals, propel the advance movement of history, protect the global peace and security and reliably defend the collective rights and interests of NAM member nations, the article noted.

The DPRK's joining in the NAM on Aug. 25, 1975 marked an important occasion in injecting vitality in the work for the unity of the movement and its strengthening and development and invigorating the movement to advance dynamically along the orbit chosen by itself in the idea of independence against imperialism and peace against war, it said, adding:

When the NAM raises its capability of concerted action in dealing with international issues it can fully play its role as the driving force for establishing fair international relations in the new century.

Its member nations should overcome discord of views on the pending issues and find agreed points and expand the sphere of concerted action on the principle of unity and solidarity. Then, is it possible to steadily strengthen and develop the movement.

The DPRK is now striving to replace the outdated ceasefire system with peacekeeping mechanism in the Korean Peninsula and ensure the regional peace and stability. This effort is intended to fully discharge its mission and role as a member state of the NAM.

The DPRK will as ever work hard to boost the unity, solidarity and cooperation with non-aligned and other developing countries in the idea of independence, peace and friendship, defend the sovereignty and dignity of the country, ensure the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula, Asia and the rest of the world and accomplish the human cause of independence.
