More Than 10,000 South Koreans Stage Anti-"Government" Actions

Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- South Korean civic and public organizations including the Confederation of Trade Unions staged actions in Seoul on August 20 and 21 to denounce the authorities' anti-worker policy and demand the guarantee of political rights.

Present there were more than 10,000 people including workers, students, media persons and teachers across south Korea including Seoul.

On August 20 the participants broke through the cordon thrown by the police with water guns and other repressive equipment before reaching the plaza of the Seoul City Office where they held a candlelight rally.

At the rally speakers condemned the authorities for cracking down on teachers and government employees and, at the same time, refusing to fulfill the commitment to halve registration fee and enforcing an unpopular rule such as obliterating the freedom of the press.

What happened at the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., in particular, is not an issue of an individual enterprise but the issue of all the workers on the verge of death due to lay-off, they held.

They demanded the authorities stop at once the politically-motivated suppression of all trade unions and guarantee the people's rights.

A resolution calling for putting an end to the authorities' unpopular rule was read out at the rally.

There continued till the next day their actions to judge the regime and the "Grand National Party" disregarding the mindset of the people and build a new society.
