May Day Stadium

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- May Day Stadium on Rungna Islet in Pyongyang is the biggest stadium in the DPRK.

The parachute-shaped stadium covers more than 400 000 square meters. Its floor space is more than 166 000 square meters and its total floor space is some 207 000 square meters.

The stadium has a football field, 400-meter-long running track and basketball and volleyball courts.

The 8-storied stadium with 150 000 seats also has training halls, resting rooms, indoor swimming pool, health center and cafeteria for players and lounges, soft drink counters and service facilities for spectators, telex room, press center and interview rooms.

The stadium was opened on May 1, Juche 78 (1989). Since then it has served as venues of many events, including the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students and international games.

The grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" has been held at the stadium since 2002.
