Japan's Moves to Distort History Goes into Extremes

Pyongyang, August 20 (KCNA) -- Japan is becoming all the more pronounced in its moves to distort the history. One of them is the persistent move to distort history textbooks.

The ultra-right forces of Japan are frantically working to implant the militarist outlook on history and revanchism into the minds of the younger generation and prepare them as descendants of samurai to be used for wars of aggression in the future, trampling underfoot even the inviolable faith of education whose mission is to teach history as what actually happened in the past.

On August 4 the Yokohama City Education Committee in Kanagawa Prefecture held an open meeting at which it decided to choose from next year the textbooks published by the Ikuhosha Publishing House as history textbooks to be used till 2015.

These textbooks were compiled by the institution for the revival of education in Japan which was branched from the "Association for Making New History Textbook" which had produced distorted history textbooks. The textbooks which went through the authorities' screening late in March this year describe Tok Islets as part of Japan's territory and the Pacific War as "Greater East Asia War."

It was reported that the history textbooks would be used by more than 100 000 students of city secondary schools from the next year, according to the decision of the Yokohama City Education Committee.

In the meantime, the textbooks which objectively describe historical facts to a certain degree are being pushed back due to the intrigues and pressure of the ultra-right forces.

This reality goes to clearly prove that the moves of the Japanese ultra-right reactionaries to implant the militarist idea into the minds of the younger generation have reached an extreme phase.
