Sungyang School in Korea

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- Sungyang School is located in Sonjuk-dong, Kaesong City, the DPRK. The school was built at the site of the house of Jong Mong Ju (1337-1392), a high-ranking government official in the late period of Koryo, and rebuilt in 1573.

The school at the foot of Mt. Janam served as an educational institution as well as a Confucian idea dissemination centre.

Its original name was Munchung Hall but it was renamed Sungyang School in 1575.

The school includes dormitories, an auditorium and a shrine.

The school was destroyed by the U.S. imperialists in the Fatherland Liberation War but restored to the original state thanks to the Workers' Party of Korea's policy of preserving cultural relics.
