Stop to Provocative UFG Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- South Korean civic and public organizations including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification demanded a stop to the war maneuvers against the DPRK. They held the 143rd action for independence, reunification and peace outside the command and control station of the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" in Songnam, Kyonggi Province on August 16.

The organizations accused the warlike forces of starting the Ulji Freedom Guardian (UFG) joint military exercises across south Korea with huge armed forces involved.

The warlike forces are describing the exercises as "defensive ones" but they are apparently aimed at aggression as they are based on the "OPLAN 5027," a scenario for attacking the north, and the "Chungmu Plan" aiming at securing a rule over the occupied areas, they said.

UFG, which is consistent with aggression against the north in view of its purpose and nature, scale and contents, is a wanton violation of the agreements reached between the north and the south of Korea including the June 15 joint declaration, they noted.

They urged the trigger-happy forces to drop the double-dealing attitude such as talking about peace on one hand and openly staging the exercises for aggression on the other.
