U.S., S. Korea Urged to Stop Military Nexus

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- Peace movement organizations of south Korea and Japan held a joint symposium in Seoul on August 15 calling for an end to the military alliance for aggression threatening the peace in the Korean Peninsula.

To build a peace mechanism in the peninsula at an early date is an important issue for peace in Northeast Asia, speakers said. This is possible when the U.S.-south Korea military alliance is abolished, they added.

The U.S. and Japan are making earnest preparations for a nuclear war in the peninsula and arms buildup and intensifying the military cooperation system with south Korea, they noted.

To achieve peace in the peninsula it is necessary to replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty and a priority task here is to get the U.S. forces withdrawn from south Korea, they said.

They called upon all the forces aspiring after peace to pool their efforts to cope with the intensified military tie-up of the trigger-happy forces.
