Angling Contest Held in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, August 18 (KCNA) -- The 10th Pyongyang angling contest was held on Taedong River Thursday.

Standings depend on the number of fishes hooked in a fixed time with an angler allowed to use four angling tools to the maximum.

A worker of the Kim Jong Suk Pyongyang Silk Mill, Hong Je Hwan (55), placed the first in the contest attended by some 40 anglers. He caught the first fish in a minute and then more than 10 fishes.

Among the first three finishers are Kim Yong Hwan (65) residing in Sosong District and Kim Tae Jip (70) in Mangyongdae District.

The vice-chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the Nature Conservation Union of Korea, Jo Kwang Bok (58), told KCNA that the contest gave a glimpse of the Korean people's cultural life developing under the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The annual event has ever grown in scale, drawing increasing public interest, he said.
