S. Korean Authorities Urged to Roll Back Their Policy of Confrontation with DPRK

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- Peasants across south Korea held an August 15 meeting of peasants for independent reunification outside the U.S. military base in Ryongsan in Seoul on August 14.

Present there were peasants affiliated with the Federation of Peasants Associations, the Federation of Women Peasants Associations and other peasants associations in Kyonggi, North and South Chungchong, North and South Kyongsang, North and South Jolla and south Korean Kangwon provinces, Jeju Island and other areas.

In a resolution the participants said: The present regime's hostile policy toward the north is depriving us of everything and covering the Korean Peninsula with dark clouds of tension and war. Tears of warm excitement shed by Koreans in the south and the north faded away and the dear promise made by them turned out to be a waste paper. The authorities are incriminating even the expression of patriotism.

They demanded the authorities roll back their policy of confrontation, holding they should opt for defusing the tensions between the south and the north and achieving reconciliation and peace, though belatedly.
