Fish Farming Proves Successful in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has taken measures to develop fish farming for the improvement of the people's living.

The Fish Farming Management Bureau of the Ministry of Fisheries has stepped up the construction of dozens of breed-fish grounds and fish farms throughout the country and the reconstruction of the Pyongyang-based Tudan Breed-Fish Station on an expansion basis, while finding out more spots suitable for fish farming.

Many large and minor hydraulic power stations and waterways have been constructed in the country, offering good conditions for developing fish farming on a large scale.

Kujang, Poman and many other fish farms have built microorganism grounds and earthworm habitats to provide natural feed.

The Fish Farm Management Bureau has raised fishes growing rapidly with less feed and sent their fries to fish farms. It has also collected and hatched spawn in a scientific and technological way.

Hwan Song Il, head of the Fish Farm Management Bureau, told KCNA that the bureau has made good results in collecting spawn of grass-eating fishes and sent many fries to fish farms and rivers throughout the country.

Fish farming has become scientific and intensive in the country, he added.
