Abolition of Alliance with U.S. Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Committee for Promoting the August 15 Meeting for Independent Reunification held a press conference outside the U.S. embassy in Seoul on August 9 denouncing the U.S. for supporting Japan's moves to grab Tok Islets.

Speakers at the press conference accused the U.S. government of submitting to an international organization an official stand that the East Sea of Korea should be marked as "Japan Sea".

This is a dangerous attitude backing Japan's claim to Tok Islets, they charged.

They demanded the U.S. retract its stand marking "Japan Sea" and opt for abolishing the alliance with south Korea and withdrawing its troops from south Korea.

The Headquarters of the Movement for the Withdrawal of the U.S. Forces in a commentary that day noted: The fact that the U.S. has so far stood on the side of Japan over this issue as the very one which caused the Tok Islets case confirmed that there is no need to maintain the south Korea-U.S. alliance any longer.

The present "government" should abolish the alliance with the U.S. and make all the U.S. forces withdrawn from south Korea, the commentary urged.
