U.S. and Its Followers Hit for Wrongly Marking East Sea of Korea

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean paper Hangyore on August 9 carried an editorial accusing foreign forces of their unilateral move to mark the East Sea of Korea as "Japan Sea".

The U.S. and its followers recently submitted to an international organization an official view that the East Sea of Korea should be marked as "Japan Sea", the editorial recalled.

The designation of "Japan Sea" was registered in an international document in 1929 for the first time as insisted by Japanese imperialists and this can hardly be found in the world maps published earlier, it noted, and went on:

Japan is talking about usage in connection with the appearance of the designation along with its past history of aggression and there is an increasing international tendency of marking the sea as the East Sea of Korea in recent years.

The U.S. attitude of siding with Japan this time adversely affects this international trend.

This attitude on the part of the U.S. which south Korea claims has an alliance with it cannot be interpreted otherwise than south Korea's diplomatic failure. The designation of "Japan Sea" should never be allowed.
